Asus may kill ZenWatch series due to poor sales

When it debuted last year, the ZenWatch 3 looked quite promising with its large, circular AMOLED display, stylish look, and solid hardware specs. Well, the device is still looking relevant to this day, but the ZenWatch creators might not be pleased with the commercial performance of the product line headed by the model.

According to Digitimes, the average monthly shipments of the ZenWatch products from the supply chain amount to 5,000-6,000 units. This is almost nothing compared to Apple’s results in the smartwatch segment – according to an industry estimate, Cupertino shipped seven million units of the Apple Watch in 2016, and IDC says the company’s smartwatch shipments have been about 3.5 million units in the first quarter of 2017 alone.

However, the information on the possible termination of the ZenWatch product development has yet to be officially confirmed by Asus. And perhaps there is still hope for the product line, given the fact that all ZenWatch models so far have been decent offerings – both in terms of features and pricing.
